AED Maintenance

An AED is a lifesaving device, therefore it is imperative that it is always kept in a state of readiness for use. Croí ask that Responders perform an AED maintenance inspection once per week. This inspection must be documented and signed on a checklist, which should be kept with the AED in the storage cabinet.
Weekly checking of the AED will ensure that it is well maintained, as well as familiarising each Responder with the device and accessories.

Take the time to read the manufacturer's User Manual to review the information on warranty, AED status indicator and corrective procedures.

Recommended Inspection Process

  • Inspect the exterior of the AED for obvious signs of damage or dirt and address this as per User Manual.
  • Check the AED Status Indicator. If this shows a warning sign, instigate the corrective procedures as per User Manual. If you require support or advice, please call Croí for assistance on 091-893500.
  • Check and record the expiry date on the AED pads. We recommend you order new pads 1 month prior to expiry to allow plenty of time. You must order pads from the relevant distributor.
  • Confirm that a spare set of pads is stored with the AED at all times.
  • Confirm that all AED accessories are present with the AED and ready for use, i.e., small towel; medical shears/scissors; latex or nitrile gloves; razor(s); pocket mask(s); valve(s); disinfectant wipe(s).
  • Ensure the AED is stored in it's designated location at all times when not in use.
