2010 Dingle Marathon

September 4, 2010

This unique run travels around the spectacular Dingle Peninsula, taking in beautiful scenery, idyllic villages and historical sites. The 2010 Dingle Marathon will take place on Saturday, September 4th.

This event has the option of completing either a half marathon (13.1 miles) or a full marathon (26.2 miles).

The half marathon heads off in the direction of Ventry to Slea head and finishes near Dunquin. It is a challenging half marathon with a lot of hills and twists and turns. The scenery is truly breath taking with magnificent views of the Blasket islands. The finish in Dunquin is provided with refreshments and a bus service is laid on to take you back to Dingle for the celebrations.

The full marathon has all the half has to offer but much more. After continuing on from Dunquin, the spectacular scenery continues to keep the spirit alive. Once you are through the beautiful village of Ballyferiter, your journey continues on with some very special views of Murreagh. An extremely tough part of the course lies ahead, with a number of grueling up-hills. Once you have conquered this section, you will be at a point where you can see over the entire landscape, the finish line is in the distance with a long straight home. The full marathon is a tough run, with a lot of challenging sections. It is however a hugely rewarding achievement.
