Following the success of our inaugural ‘Camino’ trek, Croí will be running two Camino treks in 2012!

Trek 1: June 2nd – June 9th 2012

The first trek will take place from June 2nd – June 9th 2012 along the Portuguese Route. This particular stretch of the Camino de Santiago heads north along the Atlantic Coast from Tui to Santiago de Compostela. This trail, which was used in the 13th century by Queen Isabel of Portugal, gently winds Northwards passing through wooded areas, farmlands and lovely towns and villages. This less travelled route, offers real rustic charm and warm hospitality especially from the locals that you meet along the way!

Follow in the shoes of the many people who have walked the Camino over the years and gain your unique camino passport! Collect stamps along the way from various bars, hotels and restaurants to prove that you walked at least 100km of St. James’ Way!

We offer an eight day, fully-inclusive trip which is led by an experienced Englsih speaking guide. There will also be a Croí representative present on the trip.

Day 4 – 11km – From Arcade to Pontevedra. Reaching the historic site of Ponte Sampaio, the Camino crosses the Verdugo river. During the War of Independence, Napoleon's army suffered one of its greatest defeats in Galicia at this bridge. Heading up a cobbled footpath you will come to the 13th century church of Santa Maria. The views of the Bay of Vigo are stunning!

Day 6 – 18km – From Caldas de Reis to Padron. Crossing the river Umia, we enter woods once more. The Camino makes its way gently uphill to the hamlet of Santa Marina. We then cross the river Fontenlo and follow a path lined with pine trees as we enter Padron. Padron is famous for being the first land sighted by the ship bearing the body of Saint James.
