Galway Bay Half Marathon

October 3, 2009

Croí is delighted to be one of the beneficiary charities in the upcoming Galway Bay Half Marathon, taking place on 3rd October 2009. This 13.1 mile run or walk starts and finishes along Galway’s famous coastline on the edge of the city and Bay.

Starting at the Claddagh, the looping route takes in all the beauty and dramatic scenary that the Galway Bay offers. The first three miles hug the coast along the promenade of Salthill westwards towards the residential area of Knocknacarra. After a short climb along the Cappagh road a welcome downhill stretch brings runners to the lowest section of the Western Distributer road and across Bothar Stiofan. Then the most challenging aspect of the course unfolds as you take on the Rahoon Road's notorious mile and half climb.

Your reward will be the spectacular views of Galway Bay and the Burren in the distance as you whiz downwards to retrace your steps once again along the coast road and back to Salthill. With one mile to go your journey in this unique race brings you literally out onto the Bay in a loop along the newly constructed causeway for a magnificent view across the seascape. The finish line and smiling faces will merge back at South Park where the festivities get underway to celebrate a great race.

Croí are seeking runners/walkers to join the 'Croí Team' - and help raise valuable money to continue the work of the charity.
