Croí Boost for Heart Surgery Unit!

The West of Ireland Cardiac Surgical Centre at University Hospital Galway is pushing the boundaries of clinical information technology.

Thanks to support from local heart charity Croí who this week presented state of the art, portable technology to the medical staff in the unit.

The heart surgery unit in Galway is leading the way in the West of Ireland with ‘paperless’ technology – next generation patient record keeping allowing for greatly enhanced clinical and day to day management. The new portable bedside patient record keeping system allows for immediate data input and immediate access to patient history.

Accepting the new portable device from Croí, Mr Dave Veerasingam, Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon outlined how the new device is being tested with a view to a complete transfer to paperless technology. “Nurses, doctors and patients directly benefit from this new technology which provides greater efficiency and instant access to important information which greatly contributes to optimal patient care” says Mr Veerasingam.
