Cycling Legend Sean Kelly Leads the Way for Croí

One of the finest classic cyclists of all time, Sean Kelly has pledged his commitment to the fight against heart disease and stroke by agreeing to lead the West of Ireland’s biggest charity cycle, the Croí ‘Tour de Lough Corrib’ which will take place on April 29th next year.

Sean Kelly has pledged his patronage of Croí for the next three years, which will include his participation in the charity’s annual Connemara Cycle and its first overseas cycle in the Langedouc region of France from June 2nd- 9th 2012. Kelly, who retired from competitive cycling in 1994 clocked up a staggering 188 professional victories during his career and was ranked number one cyclist in the world for a record six years.

Announcing details of Kelly’s patronage of Croí, CEO Neil Johnson said, “we are indebted to Sean Kelly for his commitment to support us over the coming years. Our Annual Lough Corrib Cycle has grown to become the biggest annual charity cycle in the West of Ireland and having Sean Kelly participate will add greatly to the appeal of the event in the years to come. Sean has very kindly agreed to hold a pre-race clinic on the eve of next year’s cycle which takes place on the earlier date of Sunday April 29th (a few weeks earlier than in previous years). We are also delighted that Sean will join us for our inaugural overseas French cycle which will take place in June next year”.
