Teresa Fallon - Survivor

Teresa, 61, from Kilrooskey Co Roscommon, went for a girls spa weekend to celebrate the upcoming wedding of her daughter Aisling in July 2008.

They chose the Radisson Hotel in Galway and had a terrific time – until the Sunday morning.

She takes up the story, “I wasn’t really aware what happened but during breakfast my heart stopped and I
collapsed on the floor. I wasn’t aware what was going on but in the dining room that morning was a doctor, a
cardiac technician and a resuscitation nurse. They immediately performed CPR. The hotel had recently
been supplied with a defibrillator by Croí and the staff had been well trained. I was shocked twice by the
defibrillator while my daughter stood looking on in  tears. It was very difficult for everybody. I was transferred to hospital and five days later received an implantable defibrillator. I was so pleased to be at the wedding one month later at my husband’s side and I have been feeling fine since.”

“The fact that they had the AED and staff trained in CPR really gave me the sense that somebody was looking out for me.”
