Get Your Boots On! 

Come and enjoy the wild and mysterious Mayo landscape and get your walking boots on and join us on an adventure through rural County Mayo. The Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail which extends from the town of Balla in central County Mayo, to the seaside village of Murrisk at the foot of Croagh Patrick, will be hosting its annual walking festival over three days - Friday 9th March, Saturday 10th March and Sunday 11th March 2018. This trail is set in a landscape that is truly inspiring, hosting a wealth of heritage that would appeal to any walker. From the starting point in Balla, the trail passes through deciduous woodland and across rolling fields and bogs. Walkers can discover boreens and ancient pathways as the trail makes its way through a number of picturesque villages towards its destination on the shores of Clew Bay.The Festival Programme includes 3 great days of guided moderate to hard walks, visiting heritage sites, and hearing the local myths and legends from our experienced guides, Registration is €20 per day or €50 for three days. 

Note: Children under 12 are not permitted on the trail.

Sister Maureen Lally wins Mayo person of the year

Sister Maureen Lally founder of Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail Walking Festival, and who also spearheaded the three-day Annual Walking Festival which takes place in March along the Croagh Patrick Trail, beginning in Balla meandering through the unspoilt landscape and rich heritage of central Mayo. Route & Distance:

Friday 9th March - Balla to Ballintubber (18km) -

8.30am Sharp - Meeting point at car park outside Corleys Pub Ballintubber across from The Abbey. 

9am Registration Balla Community Centre. Tea/coffee refreshments provided. 

9.30am Commence walk from Balla to Ballintubber (18km). 

Refreshment stop - Tuffys Pub - Tea/coffee and sandwiches provided.

3pm - 5pm Finish day 1 in Corleys Pub Ballintubber.

Saturday 10th March – Ballintubber to Aghagower (23km)

8.30am Sharp - Meeting point Aughagower Village (rear of church). Transport to start. 

9am Registration Corleys Pub Ballintubber. Tea/coffee refreshments provided. 

9.30am Commence walk from Ballintubber to Aghagower (23km). 

Refreshment stop - Killawalla  - Tea/coffee and sandwiches provided.

3pm - 6pm Finish day 2 at Aughagower Village.

Sunday 11th March - Aghagower -Murrisk (19km)

8.30am Sharp - Meeting point Murrisk - Car park at base of Croagh Patrick. Transport to start. 

9am Registration Aughagower Community Centre. Tea/coffee refreshments provided. 

9.30am Commence walk from Aghagower -Murrisk (19km). 

Refreshment stop - Brackloon - Tea/coffee and sandwiches provided.

3pm - 6pm Finish day 3 at Murrisk.

Refreshments provided each day.

Transport will be provided each morning to ferry walkers from the Meeting point to the Starting point. This means that your personal transport will be at the end of your destination on arrival each day. Register online.
